BioWare and Beyond: My Perspective
Until recently, David Gaider worked with famed RPG developer BioWare on such titles as 'Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn', 'Knights of the Old Republic', and the `Dragon Age` series with `Dragon Age: Inquisition` being his most recent release in 2014. BioWare is well-regarded for the strides it's made on the issue of representation, but it's also had its share of criticism on the subject and encountered its share of setbacks. While David can't talk about where BioWare will be going in the future, he can talk frankly about how it got to where it is now and what those problems were - and maybe offer some observations on how they parallel issues in the industry at large."

Butts in Gaming - The Art of Charactertisation
Content Warning - This talk will feature numerous pictures of butts. Most of these will be clothed, a couple may not be. Butts will be presented in a purely academic and non sexual context. These butts are for learning.

Butts are kind of silly right? They only seem to get discussed when they've been over sexualised, and we rarely go into detail about what we like or what bothers us about them. Well, this panel is designed to demystify the design choices behind video game butts.

Which video game character butt tells us about a woman's sense of body positivity and how she learned to love her own weight? Which video game character is wearing a helmet to hide that their forehead is actually a butt? Which video game character used a butt to save the world? All these questions and more will be answered in this very serious, totally not silly, talk about the art of butts.

Gaming Identity
Games allow us to step into another life and find solace, wisdom, or empowerment we don’t find in our own. But for many of us, they also offer a safe space to explore a part of ourselves we keep deeply hidden.

Many modern queer gamers first began exploring their gender or sexuality in the freedom of tabletop gaming, or in the anonymity of video games. This panel looks at how games have been used by queer people to become more comfortable with who they really are, and how we can create more opportunities for that same exploration to everyone, whether gay, trans, straight, or cis.

So, how *do* you, you know, *do* it? Are games doomed to portray sex poorly? Will there ever be a Lady Chatterley's Lover or Story of O for videogames? Is Twine the only way forward? Geek policing and gate-keeping happens when someone shows interest in something of the nerdy persuasion, and "true fans" chase them away or "cred check", especially towards marginalized groups.

From Birdo to Mizhena: Transgender and Fantasy
Transgender characters and themes seem to be the hot, new, modern topic, but gender variance—under a variety of names—is as old as humanity. But with the recent furor over trans characters feeling "forced" in various popular titles, how can you be inclusive without making your transgender characters feel out-of-place or insensitive?

This panel is a short overview on trans history (and prehistory), followed by discussion on how recognize the niche and importance of gender variance in your fictional worlds while avoiding anachronistic language.

Ghostbusters - When Halloween was Forever
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Fantasy AGE - With the ley lines of Manhattan newly charged, supernatural activity all around New York is on the rise. The restless dead have kept the Ghostbusters busy, especially as Halloween approaches and even the usual skeptics start to let their superstition show. But is the rise in paranormal reports just a side effect of the season, or are New York’s ghosts being emboldened by some unseen force? A haunting at the Manhattan Museum of Antiquities may hold the answers, and the potential to make things far, far worse.

When Halloween was Forever is a tabletop roleplaying adventure using the Fantasy AGE ruleset and based on the new Ghostbusters film released earlier this year. Step into the workboots of Erin Gilbert, Jillian Holtzmann, Patty Tolan, and Abby Yates, along with their loveable receptionist Kevin, as they investigate the rise in hauntings around New York and face an iconic Ghostbusters foe. Some familiarity with the Fantasy AGE rules would be helpful, but not necessary, and custom character sheets will be provided.

'Fans vs. Creators: Is There a Better Way?'
Whether we're talking about the 100, Ghostbusters, or your favorite video game series, there's a sense that fandom spaces have become armed camps rather than spaces for discussion. Creators are suddenly backed against a wall feeling as if they must now justify their choices. Is that justification truly necessary? Where does the line exist between listening to one's audience and caving to their demands? Is there such a thing as a 'good fan' and a 'bad fan', and how does one walk that line in order to participate in a healthy conversation with creators about things like representation? Is that even possible anymore?"

Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Help playtest a new single-session story game about espionage, exploration, and arcane areas of expertise!

Human Intelligence is a game of mistaken identity. Due to miscommunication and cunning disguise, you and your fellow players are all alien infiltrators, unaware of each other’s real selves, on the same deep space exploration team. Your team contains no actual humans. Your goal is to survive the dangerous conditions of this mission and get back to your ship still alive, still friends-- and undiscovered.

Characters will be generated on the spot. The game runs for 2-3 hours, so multiple sessions may be possible. Participants will get a free PDF copy of the game on launch.

Also another new in progress game about fan fiction, cross-overs, and breaking the fourth wall. Cooperative or competitive play with mechanics inspired by Fire Emblem and a variety of fanfic tropes.
