Transgender characters and themes seem to be the hot, new, modern topic, but gender variance—under a variety of names—is as old as humanity. But with the recent furor over trans characters feeling "forced" in various popular titles, how can you be inclusive without making your transgender characters feel out-of-place or insensitive?

This panel is a short overview on trans history (and prehistory), followed by discussion on how recognize the niche and importance of gender variance in your fictional worlds while avoiding anachronistic language.
